POROMETER 4

HISTORY

Since the introduction of the Coulter Porometer I in the early eighties, the porometer market has been dominated by Coulter. Improved models of the Coulter Porometer were launched in the nineties. Following the acquisition of the Coulter Corporation by Beckman, the Beckman Coulter Porometer III was introduced in 1999. It has never been successful and Coulter disappeared as a supplier of porometers.

2FI, a specialist filtration and engineering company based in the UK and part of the Porvair Filtration group, has re-worked the original Coulter porometer. The result, the Porometer IV has a performance, reliability and repeatability that are far better than the previous versions of the Coulter Porometer. It has state of the art hardware, and the third generation pressure control algorithms provide for exceptional measurement repeatability regardless of the pore range chosen. The Porometer 4 is controlled entirely from its own Windows® software interface. Raw data is graphed and displayed in real time and post analysis calculations provide the user with flexible output solutions. Data files are compatible with standard spreadsheet programs.

In 2007, Benelux Scientific, a scientific instruments company based in Belgium acquired the rights for worldwide sales and marketing of the Porvair porometer from 2FI.

MEASURING PRINCIPLES

Capillary flow porometry, a liquid extrusion technique in which the differential gas pressure and flow rates through wet and dry samples are measured.
