Electrospinning, nanofibers & pore size: Join Porometer at EXPO 2025 Osaka

Porometer is proud to join the global conversation on nanotechnology and advanced materials at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. As part of a collaborative event organized by Elmarco—world leader in industrial electrospinning—we will demonstrate our porometry expertise at the Czech Pavilion.

Whether you work with nanofibrous membranes, are exploring new filtration technologies, or just want to see the latest in material characterization, this is an event you won’t want to miss.

Electrospinning workshop at EXPO 2025: Live demo & nanofiber analysis

  • June 12, 2025

  • 10:00–13:00

  • VIP Lounge, Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2025, Osaka

  • Organized by Elmarco | In partnership with Thermo Fisher Scientific & Porometer

Porometer’s contribution will focus on pore size and open porosity characterization, a critical performance metric for electrospun materials used in filtration, biomedical applications, energy storage, and more.

This three-hour interactive session will include:

  • Live electrospinning demo on a LAB-scale Elmarco machine, spinning water-soluble polymers

  • Pore size measurement demonstration by Porometer—showing how to accurately assess nanofiber membrane performance

  • Microscopic analysis of nanofibrous layers using the Phenom Desktop SEM from Thermo Fisher

  • A look into market trends and applications for nanofibrous membranes

Why pore size matters for electrospun membranes

Electrospun membranes are prized for their exceptional properties—high porosity, ultra-thin layers, and adjustable fiber diameters—making them ideal for advanced filtration, biomedical, and energy-related applications. But these same features also make them difficult to characterize with conventional techniques.

That's where Porometer makes the difference.

Pore size and open porosity are critical design parameters when developing nanofibrous membranes. Understanding how fluids move through these complex structures is essential for predicting real-world performance. Our latest Application Note, now available for download, dives into how Porometer’s POROLUX™ series is uniquely equipped for this task.

Key insights from the Application Note:

  • ✅ Reproducible pore size measurements using POROLUX™Revo

  • ✅ Open porosity calculation enabled by an enhanced mathematical model in the Revo series, giving a more accurate picture of flow pathways

  • ✅ Specialized tools, such as etched support grids and reduced-area sample holders, allow for testing even the most delicate electrospun membranes

Porometry doesn’t just quantify—it enables smarter design and validation of electrospun membranes. This will be demonstrated live during our EXPO 2025 workshop, showing how analytical precision meets membrane innovation.
